Betty Gayle Steiner

January 15, 1943 — February 17, 2026

Ackerman, MS

Betty Gayle Steiner was born on January 15, 1943, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, to William and Mildred (Black) McClure. She was later joined by her brother, William Gerald "Sonny" McClure, and was raised in Ackerman, Mississippi.

Betty graduated from high school and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Home Economics from Holmes Junior College, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from Delta State University. Soon after graduation, she accepted a position with the Custer County Extension Office in Miles City, Montana.

Betty soon met Cloyd Jay Steiner and after a brief courtship, they were married on December 23, 1965, in Ackerman, Mississippi. Betty told Cloyd she would stay in Montana with him for 30 years and then they would move to Mississippi. After 41 years in Montana, they moved to Mississippi in 2006, where she greatly enjoyed reconnecting with family and friends and remained busy working with several area State Farm offices.

From this union were born three sons: William, Jay, and Dennis. Betty devoted herself to raising her boys. Once they were all in school, she returned to work, serving as a substitute teacher, a bookkeeper for several local businesses, and later becoming self-employed through a vending service and as an Avon representative. She also spent many years as the office manager for the Tom Marum State Farm Agency. Betty served on the Eastern Montana Fair Board, including several years as its President

Betty was active in her faith throughout her life and was involved in the Presbyterian church communities in both Miles City, Montana, and Ackerman, Mississippi, where she found fellowship, service, and lasting friendships.

Betty passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mildred McClure; her husband of 44 years, Cloyd Steiner; and her niece and her husband Laura and Don Harmon

She is survived by her brother, William (Gayle) McClure; her sons, William (Holly), Jay (Jamie), and Dennis; and her grandchildren, Sebastian, Dylan, Sierra, Gemma, and Emma. She is also survived by  Nephew David, Niece Tiffany and Grand niece Brylee Kate, along with several Cousins.
