Billy Joe Oswalt

Billy Joe Oswalt was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful servant of God, and a hardworking man who took great pride in his family, his faith, and his work. He will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and the many simple joys he shared with the people he loved.

Billy Joe was the son of the late Houston L. Oswalt and Delcy Oswalt. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Barbara Ann (Oswalt) Berry, H.L. Oswalt Jr., and Jeannette Oswalt. He is survived by his sisters, Rose (Oswalt) Hunt and Sandra (Oswalt) McKay.

Billy Joe proudly served his country as a United States Marine from 1968 to 1970 in the Vietnam War. After his military service, he worked as a logger, a profession that reflected his strength, determination, and willingness to work hard.

His faith was an important part of his life. Billy Joe was a longtime member and Deacon of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where he faithfully served his church and community.

On April 5, 1968, Billy Joe married the love of his life, Martha Jean Oswalt (Threet). Together, they built a life filled with love, family, hard work, and countless memories. Their family grew to include three children: Patricia (Oswalt) Jones (David), Brian Oswalt (Cristi), and Roy Oswalt (Jennifer).

Billy Joe was a proud grandfather to Jonathan Black (Andi), Arlee Crowley (Clark), Molly Oswalt, Ainslee Oswalt, Oliver Oswalt, Aubree Oswalt, and Houston Oswalt. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he cherished the time he spent with them.

Billy Joe enjoyed the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He loved hunting, gardening, softball, and football. He also had a well-known love for ice cream and caramel cake—two things that could always bring a smile to his face.

More than anything, Billy Joe loved his family. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, hard work, and love that will continue through his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters, and all those whose lives he touched.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the memories he leaves behind and in the love that will carry his legacy forward.
