Charlotte Curtis Taylor

January 11, 1944 — October 7, 2025

Ackerman, MS

Charlotte Ann Curtis Taylor went to her heavenly home at 2:30 a.m. on October 8, 2025, at the age of 81. Though our hearts ache, we rest in the peace of knowing she has met Jesus face to face. He completed a good work in her, and we are thankful.

Charlotte lived a life of honor, love, and service. Born on January 11, 1944, in French Camp, Mississippi, to Robert Warren Curtis and Hazel Box Curtis Coleman, Charlotte’s life was rooted in faith, education, and compassion. She married William Hagues (“Bill”) Taylor of Long Beach, Mississippi, on July 22, 1964, in Livingston, Alabama. Together they built a life devoted to ministry, community, and family, sharing 56 years of marriage before Bill’s passing in 2020.

Charlotte was the proud mother of four children:

• William Todd Taylor (deceased), married to Lorie Ann Knox;

• Lara Estelle Taylor of Ackerman, MS;

• Kevin Curtis Taylor (Cheri Ann Bonfiglio Taylor) of Thousand Oaks, California;

and

• Keith Hagues Taylor of Ackerman, MS.

Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren:

Sarah Grace and Joshua Knox Taylor; Stella Corinn, Camille Elise, and Elijah Coleman Taylor; Raustin Jacob (Ross) and Madison Sophia Neal; and Carol Milner (Millie) and Mary Jane Taylor.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Warren Curtis and Hazel Coleman; step-father Robert Coleman; husband, Bill; her son, Todd; and her brothers, Robert Warren Curtis Jr., Joe Ed Curtis, and Thomas Wayne Curtis. She is survived by her remaining children, Lara, Kevin, and Keith, her grandchildren, her beloved aunt, Mary Sue Yaninek, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.

An educator by calling and passion, Charlotte founded the Alternative School for the Gulfport School System and retired as Principal of 28th Street Elementary. She was a lifelong preacher’s wife, Sunday School teacher, and servant-leader who poured her time into her church, her community, and anyone who needed a hand or a home.

Since 2018, she had served as President of the Friends of the Library for Choctaw County Libraries, on the Board of the Choctaw County Health Services Foundation, and as a dedicated volunteer for local elections.

Charlotte loved her plants and her roses, her yard, and her community. But more than anything, she loved her family… especially her grandchildren… and never missed a chance to tell them how proud she was.She spent the final nine weeks of her life showing the same grace, strength, and faith that defined her every day. Even in hardship, she remained thankful, steadfast, and surrounded by love.

In honor of the countless children whose lives she touched, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Baptist Children’s Village, a ministry close to her heart.
