Charlsie Morgan Howard Bixler

February 21, 1930 — April 7, 2026

Sturgis, MS

Charlsie Bixler passed peacefully from her home in Morgantown to her heavenly home on April 7, 2026. She will be dearly missed by many.

Charlsie was born February 21, 1930, in the Sturgis community to Charles Edward Morgan and Jenny Bess Tumberlinson Morgan.

She married Leon Howard and graduated Sturgis High School. They resided in Memphis, where she worked at the VA hospital. When Leon became ill, they returned to Sturgis until his death. Then Charlsie, asserting the fierce independence and feisty determination that drove her personality, returned to Memphis and her work at the VA Hospital. She met and married Bob Bixler there. She often said that she had been blessed with two different husbands who loved her dearly and that she loved dearly.

After Bob’s retirement, they built a home in Sturgis where they would live out their lives. While she had no children, she was surrounded by a host of relatives who cared deeply for her and enabled her to remain in her home for her final years. She particularly enjoyed her flower garden and watching the hummingbirds it attracted. She attended Morgan Chapel Baptist Church. Her death is the last of a generation and closes a chapter of loving, caring, sharing, and building for the family.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Leon Howard, and her second husband Robert (Bob) Bixler; her parents, Charles Edward Morgan and Jenny Bess Tumberlinson Morgan; brothers and sisters: Sam (Mae) Pole Morgan, Wendell Murphy Morgan, Charles Watt Morgan, Sarah (Cecil) Morgan Carpenter, Mary, Alice (James, Hot) Morgan Green, Genevieve (LC) Morgan Wilson. Nephews and nieces: Dorothy (Dot) Carpenter Curan, Jima Johnson, Patsy Morgan, Kenny Morgan, Marilyn Leonard, and Eddie Morgan. Great nephews and nieces: Cindy Curan Thompson, Margaret Johnson-Niclels, Debbie Johnson, Scott Morgan, Toni Morgan.

Pallbearers: Robert Morgan, Sam Morgan, Charlie Morgan, Terry Greene, Kenny Malone, Lowell Thompson, Wilson Gammill, Ken Warren and Chuck Morgan
