Janet Miles Busby
Written with love by Sarah
On August 9, 1946, the world became a better and brighter place. Janet Miles, daughter of Jack and Juanice Miles, made her arrival. She Will always be remembered for her caring heart, her friendly smile, her love for the Lord, and her selflessness.
Janet and Tony Busby were high school sweethearts and were married June 23, 1967, at Ackerman Methodist Church. Not long after, she joined Ackerman Baptist Church, where she was very involved. Janet loved her church and often said how much she missed it when she became too ill to attend. She was involved in Senior Adult XYZ, WMU, she sent cards (I'm sure she volunteered for that) to visitors and anyone who was sick. When it came time to pack boxes for Operation Christmas Child, Janet packed more than enough. She and Tony had a permanent seat at the back of the sanctuary. Maybe it was because Dewayne had to be taken out quite often for being unruly.
Janet loved her son, Dewayne, and she never hesitated to brag about him. Was he spoiled?Probably, but that was Janet's doing and she owned up to it. She loved him with all her heart.
When I came back into Dewayne's life, she always told me she'd never worry about him because "he found a good one". I told her it was the other way around; I found a good one and a great family.
She was a devoted teacher in Choctaw County for 24 years. Everywhere she went, she encountered former students and could always call them by name. I remember her telling me she bought Christmas presents for students she knew wouldn't get anything and hid that from Tony. Somehow, I think he knew.
After purchasing Ackerman Hardware, she and Tony, along with his mama, Georgia, ran the store for a number of years.
I'm not sure when she discovered Hobby Lobby but I'm sure they loved that she did! That store was her favorite! Her storage room off her carport is what I call "Janet's Hobby Lobby".
One thing she never did was complain. She was always willing and eager to help others. She was faithful to send cards for every occasion to those she loved. Her calendar had everyone's birthday, and she always made them feel special on their day. Holidays were special to Janet. She always made sure the kids in the neighborhood had gifts.
The last Halloween she had, I was amazed! She wasn't your typical stop. It Janet was your first stop, she was your last because she gave so much!
Janet was a child of God, wite, mama, Sugie, aunt, sister, teacher, and friend. In heaven, she is happily awaiting her devoted son, Dewayne and her daughter-in-law, Sarah. Her brother Rickey Miles and her sister-in-law Debbie. Her baby brother, Warren "Bug" Miles and her sister-in-law, Dana. Her grandchildren, Macey and Bryce Busby, Mary Beth and Emma Woodward were the light of her world. She loved and cherished her niece Caden (Dalton) Perrigin and her nephew Jack Miles and his fiance, Marissa Brown.
Thank you is so inadequate for her friends and family that helped her when she began to decline.
Janet loved and trusted Dr. Huffman and his staff explicitly. He cared for her like she was his own mama. He promised to keep her around and pain free for as long as possible. Pam King, her lifelong friend, would come to her home and do her hair. She always brought food, flowers or cards. When Janet was in the hospital, Pam rarely missed a day to visit. Connie Black, her cousin, but more like her sister, was also a God send. She never hesitated when help when needed. Shelly Welch and Linda Black. You were both such amazing caretakers to Janet before she went to Brooklyn Hall. She loved you both so much and cherished the conversations y'all had. Brooklyn Hall staff: there are no words to convey how thankful we are to you. Even though Janet wasn't thrilled to go to assisted living, she knew it was time. Leaving her home of 50 years was hard, to say the least. It took some time to adjust; she always told her caretakers how much she loved them. Laura Conerly and Kelsi King, her hospice nurses; your grace, tenderness, time, patience, and caring hands will always be remembered. She loved you both so much.
Per her request, private funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 3rd at 9:30 a.m. at Coleman Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest, next to her husband, at Salem Cemetery. Bro. Danny Irvin and Bro. Eugene Worrell will have the honor of being officiates.
Pallbearers will be Chris Busby, Rick Tennyson, Tom Power, Jack Miles, Waylon Miller, and Sam Griffin. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Adams, M.P. Busby, Sammy Barksdale, Winky McAdams and Bryce Busby
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Ackerman Baptist Church or Brooklyn Hall Personal Care Home.
