Edris Jean (Fulgham) Gammill passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Brooklyn Hall Personal Care Home in Mathiston, MS. Jean was born on December 15, 1930, at home in Maben, MS, to John Rayford “Bud” and Estelle (Bright) Fulgham, and lived to the ripe old age of 95. Jean was a member of Adaton Baptist Church in Starkville, MS.
In her lifetime, Jean held numerous positions such as an Administrative Assistant at Forest Products Lab at Mississippi State University, helping her husband, Glenn, with genealogy research, and working retail at Spiller Furniture and The Linen Outlet. She enjoyed working so much, she retired twice.
Jean engaged in many crafts, from making wedding dresses to sewing men's suits. She also loved to crochet afghans for friends and family, as well as knitting and cross-stitching. She also possessed the proverbial “green thumb”. It is said she could put a stick in a glass of water and it would grow roots.
Jean loved spending time with her grandkids. From countless hours of playing UNO, Skip-Bo and Yahtzee to staying up late watching movies, even though she'd seen them a thousand times. Her competitive streak carried on during her stay at the nursing home where she was the reigning BINGO Champ.
No one dared tell Jean she couldn't do something because she would always prove them wrong. Her C.B. handle describes her best, short and sassy. We're sure going to miss her.
Funeral services will be held at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 10:30 AM. Jean will be buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Starkville, MS. Visitation will be held prior to service time on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS.
Jean is survived by her son, Rodney Gammill (Pam) of Ackerman, MS; her 2 daughters, Cynthia Berry of Mathiston, MS and Margaret Odom (Tony) of Perry, GA; and her sister, Sandra Tucker (John) of Joshua, TX. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, Jason Ashley (Tanya), Shea Gammill (Shelley), Adam Berry (Sarah), Audrey Gammill, Heather McLain (Kent), Emily Dees (Kirby), and Jacob Odom; her 21 great-grandchildren, her 3 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Glenn Gammill; her parents, John Rayford “Bud” and Estelle (Bright) Fulgham; 6 siblings, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Wise, P.D. Fulgham, Mildred “Mill” Vaughn, Johnnie Gammill, Billie Richardson, and Carole Arnold; and her son in law, Glen Berry.
