Ackerman, MS

John Tennant graduated from West Fairmont High School in 1956 and graduated from West Virginia University in December1967 with a   B. S. He worked for DeGarmo & Riggs Tractor Sales and learned stone masonry work, as well as tractor sales and repair.  Later, while attending WVU, he had a part time job with Sharon Steel as a night watchman on weekends.

After graduation, he accepted a job with Continental Can in Prince George, VA as a Forester.  Then he moved to Waynesboro, GA and worked for a paper mill with Continental Can.  Next he accepted a job in Washington, GA where he built a hi-tech sawmill.  In 1976, he and his family moved to Ackerman, MS where he was Plant Manager of TMA until 1992 and proceeded to continue the sawmill business with a portable sawmill until September 2022.

Throughout his life, he was involved in the Lions Club in Waynesboro, GA, Ackerman Rotary Club (President), early planning of the Ackerman Country Club, Choctaw County Economic Development (President, during the development of the Red Hills Coal Mine), Volunteer Fireman, and 4-County Electric serving on the Elections and Credential Committee and a member Advisory Committee.

His interests included airplanes, managing and maintaining his property, problem solving, tinkering, repairing, building his barn, and helping others.  He loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind and shared his faith when given the opportunity.  He sang with the “No-Name Quartet” and the Enon Church choir.  He served as an Elder, a Sunday School Teacher, cooked for the Men’s Prayer Breakfast and was a member of the Enon Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  He loved the study of Eschatology-End Time Prophesy.  He worked hard, and for him, work was play and playing was helping others.  He served the Lord wholeheartedly and went home peacefully to meet his Savior on Tuesday, June 13th at 5:45 p.m.

His family was his pride and joy, his “Cup & Saucer”.

He married Carole Glover in 1959 at Central Methodist Church in Fairmont, WV.  To this union, he had a son, Brian, and 2 daughters, Juanita, and Leslie.
