Malvina Mccool Moore

Malvina McCool Moore, born December 22, 1911, died peacefully in her sleep on November 26, 2015 at The Beehive in Louisville, MS. She was the daughter of the late Dick Cauthen McCool and Ozella Miller McCool of Canton, MS.
Following graduation from Canton High School she went on to attend Ole Miss where she became actively involved in campus life. As a student she served on the staff of The Daily Mississippian, The Ole Miss Annual, on the Pan-Hellenic Council, and as secretary of the Latin and International Relations Clubs. She was also a member and president of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and was recognized in Who's Who as Most Popular girl for two years running. Recently she was discovered to be the oldest living graduate of Ole Miss in her centennial years.
After graduating in just three years (1933), she immediately accepted a job teaching high school Latin and English in Starkville, MS. While there she met and later married Joseph Samuel Moore, Jr. In their first years of marriage the couple lived in Little Rock, Arkansas before returning to Mississippi and settling in Ackerman.
She was very active in civic life including serving as the chairman of the Ackerman Library Board, as an active Girl Scout leader, a member of the DAR and the Federated Women's Club, and a parishioner at Church of the Resurrection in Starkville, MS where she served on the Altar Guild.
Miss Mal, as she was known to many, or Chink, as she was known to her family, will long be remembered for her wonderful stories, her generous hospitality, and her sincere delight in people from all walks of life.
She is preceded in death by siblings Florence McCool Martin and Dick Cauthen McCool, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Susan Moore Clark (Joe) of Louisville and Patience Moore Rall of Madison, along with many nieces and nephews, six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family will be forever grateful for the caregivers that were gracious and supportive to the very end, in particular, for Lucy Wise and her lifelong love and work with our family and for Linda Triplett who has loyally cared for Miss Mal for over a decade.
Visitation will be held at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman on Monday, November 30th from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM with graveside service immediately following. A Memorial Eucharist will be held at a later date at Grace Episcopal Church in Canton, MS.
