Services for Maude Gillis Furr, 95, were held at Ackerman United Methodist Church on November 12, 2016. The Rev. George Buell and the Rev. Kevin Yearber officiated her Celebration of Life Services. Special music was provided by Dr. Kathy King. Burial was at Enon Cemetery.
Mrs. Furr, a lifelong resident of Ackerman, was born December 31, 1920, and died November 9, 2016. She and her husband, F.L Furr, owned and operated West End Grocery for more than 20 years. Following the sale of the business, she was employed as the secretary at Ackerman High School for 17 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Lee Furr, a son, Ronald Lee Furr, her parents, William Clayton Gillis and Nona Adams Gillis, along with four sisters and three brothers, one of whom was her twin.
Survivors include three children, Judy Sollie of Augusta, Ga., Jean Cooper (Tom) of Ackerman, and John Furr (Jill) of Ackerman; eight grandchildren, Emily Sollie (Jonathan Ernst) of Washington, D.C., Matthew Sollie (Sarah), of North Augusta, S.C., Michael Cooper (Lauren Ann) of Starkville, Miss., Laura Cooper Tennent (Kyle) of Oxford, Miss., Jennifer Cooper of Ackerman, Andrew Furr (Casey) of Mandeville, La., Trent Furr of Ackerman, and Alison Cooper of Ackerman; and four great grandchildren: Caitlin Sollie, Rhett Cooper, Ellie Tennant, and Westin Cooper.
"Miss Maude," as she was fondly called by many, loved and trusted in the Lord every day of her life and was a sweet example of unconditional love to all who knew her.
