Ralph Eddie Metzger

Ralph Eddie Metzger of Mathiston, MS, formerly of Hayti, MO, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora, MS. He was 94 years old.

Ralph was born January 11, 1930, in Concord, MO, to John and Nellie (Williams) Metzger. After high school, he enlisted in The Army National Guard of the United States. Ralph was honorably discharged on August 22, 1956. His highest rank held was Sgt E-5 for the Company K 140th Infantry Missouri National Guard. Ralph was a jack of all trades. He always enjoyed working on projects with his hands, and thankfully he was able to continue this until the end.

Ralph was united in marriage to Winnie Imogene “Jean” Butler on June 30, 1953 in Tunica, MS. They were married for 71 years.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Jean (Butler) Metzger of Mathiston, MS (formerly of Hayti, MO); his 3 daughters, Pam (Rodney) Gammill of Ackerman, MS, Patty (Jay) Justice of Collierville, TN, and Paige (Marco) Chayet of Centennial, CO; his 9 grandchildren, Shea (Shelley) Gammill, Audrey Gammill, Heather (Kent) McLain, Emily (Kirby) Dees, Garrett (Christian) Jackson, Caleb Chayet, Jessica Justice, Chad Justice, and Austin Justice; his great-grandchildren, Macey (Dillon), Micah (Lauren), Calla, Larson, Noah, Mackenzie, Shaw, Madilyn, Thaitus, Ezra, Jedidiah, Malachi, Asa, Magnolia, Aiden, Bella, and Scarlett; two great-great-grandchildren on the way; his sister, Geneva Metzger and his sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Metzger, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula Metzger; his parents, John and Nellie (Williams) Metzger; six brothers, Murrell “Red” Mullins, Sherrill Mullins, William “Billy” Metzger, J.W. Metzger, Cletus Metzger, and Jimmy Metzger; and four sisters, Burnice Mullins, Vurnice Mullins, Margaret (Metzger) Del Monaco, and Mayola (Metzger) Cross.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Dry Bayou Cemetery in Hayti, MO. John W. German Funeral Home to be in charge of services.
