Richard Boyd Shurden

Richard Boyd Shurden of Mathiston, MS, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Richard was born on May 10, 1959, in Ackerman, MS, to Harold and Mary (Foote) Shurden. He was 65 years old. Richard was retired from the Choctaw County Road Crew. He was a member of Blythe Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS on Monday, September 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Bro. Rob Faulk officiating. Burial will follow at Blythe Creek Baptist Cemetery near Mathiston, MS. Visitation will be held prior to service time from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS. Pallbearers will be Grover Abbott, Chris McBride, Joshua McBride, Joel Taylor, Chad Fondren, Grady Erwin, Kyle Erwin, and Chris Pinnix. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rylan Taylor, Reece Taylor, Noah Fondren, and Jonah Fondren.

Richard is survived by his brother, Ron (Mary) Shurden of Louisville, MS; his sister, Janie (Bobby) Peeples of Ackerman, MS; 2 nieces, Ashley (Chad) Fondren and Brittany (Joel) Taylor; and 6 great nieces and nephews, Noah, Jonah, Ada Jane, Rylan, Reece and Rylie Ann.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn (Parker) Shurden; and his parents, Harold and Mary (Foote) Shurden.
