Robert N. Black, Jr.

Dr. Robert Nick Black, 81, of Florence, AL, passed into the Church Triumphant on July 8th at Huntsville Hospital Hospice and Family Care in Huntsville, AL.
He was born on Christmas Eve 1944, near Weir, MS to Robert Nick Black Sr. and Nola Madge (Veal) Black.
Robert graduated from Weir High School in 1962 where he was a standout athlete and scholar. He went on to earn his BS and MS degrees in Education from Mississippi State University and later earned his Doctorate in Education from Southern Mississippi University.

He served as an educator throughout his life, mostly within Mississippi and Alabama. He served as principal at Winfield High School in Winfield, AL, Zion Chapel High School in Jack, AL and Richton High School in Richton, MS before completing his career as
assistant principal his last 22 years at Deshler High School in Tuscumbia, AL.

Bob married the love of his life, Mary Cutts on July 3, 1965. They were married 61 years.

Known for unyielding impartiality, fairness, loyalty, and courage, he touched the lives of thousands of young people through his service. He loved sports, collecting sports cards,
and spending time at home with his family.

He spent a great deal of time working outside and gardening. He loved planting seeds, tending them, and watching them grow. Also, he was a man of prayer. He prayed faithfully and quoted the Psalms frequently.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Sr, and Madge Black.
Robert is survived by: • Wife: Mary (Cutts) Black • Son: Marcus Black (and wife Jennifer) of Ruston, LA; daughter Amanda (and husband Mike) of Opelika, AL; and daughter Meredith (and husband Jason) of Madison, AL. • Grandchildren: Nathan Adams, Luke Black,
Daniel Adams, Eli Black, Joshua Adams, and Bess Black.
He was a devoted husband and father and a stout defender of his Christian faith. He was a man of conviction and principle.

A visitation will be held on July 12th from noon to 1pm followed by the funeral service at 1pm at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to one of his favorite charities, Samaritans Purse.
