Robert William Chandler, Sr. unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday July 26, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Mr. Chandler was born on August 6, 1937 to Wayne and Mildred Chandler. In 1955 Robert graduated from Weir High School, and on June 18, 1960 he married the love of his life Lila Ann Dempsey. They were married for 56 years and had two children, Robert (Robby) William Chandler, Jr., Teresa Lynn Chandler Russ, seven grandchildren: Josey, Katelyn and her husband Michael, Ann Marie and her husband Taylor, Erin, Chandler, Christian, and Matthew, and two great grandchildren: Trenton and Bryson.
He and Lila opened their first retail grocery store in 1969. From there they learned quickly they had landed on the right career path, and Mr. Chandler's passion became devoted to building on that endeavor where he remained for the rest of his life.
Robert was not only known for his devotion to his family and his business but also the community who supported him. He made it a priority to know and appreciate each and every single person who stepped inside his store.
Robert was a member of Weir Presbyterian Church, and was well known for his love for God and family by being a devoted Christian husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and mentor to many.
He is survived by his wife Lila; his son Robby (Diana) of Ackerman, MS; his daughter Teresa Russ (Tim) of Florence, AL; his seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister Ellouise Bane (Dave) of Louisville, MS; brother Donald (Joy) of Weir, MS; brother David (Glenda) of Louisville, MS; sister Elaine Phillips (Tommy) of Albertville, AL; sister Debbie Mays (Haywood) of Ripley, TN; and brother Jerry (Leila) of Ackerman, MS.
He was proceeded in death by his mother Mildred, his father Wayne, and his brother Larry Chandler.
