Robert Lee Myers, Jr.

Robert Myers, Jr., of Weir, MS, passed away in his home on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 73. Robert was born in Greenwood, MS, on March 1, 1951, to Robert and Grace Myers. Only 17 months older than his brother Joe, Robert took his role as the eldest son seriously and spent his life protecting, serving, and loving his mom and family. 

Robert graduated from Starkville High School in 1969 and married the petite, soft-spoken Brenda Lucas on August 22, 1970, but soon after, he left to serve his country in Vietnam in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Crew Chief. He later served in the MS Army National Guard in the 1st Calvary Division, and you could find him wearing his Vietnam Vet hat and carrying a 45. He was proud of his service and loved his country, no matter the cost. He worked as an Industrial Maintenance Technician and settled down with his wife Brenda in Weir, MS, where they raised their two sons, Robert and Lucas. Robert and Brenda made a life together, sometimes hard, sometimes uncertain, but for 52 years they loved each other. 

Robert was an active member and deacon of Bear Creek Baptist Church where he served the Lord and his church family, sometimes too well such as the time he worked on the cemetery sign but lost his footing on the ladder and thus was foundhanging in the air by one arm, unable to free himself from his post. When he became a grandfather, he wanted to honor his paternal grandfather and be called “Pop,” a title he treasured with his 6 grandchildren. In later years, Robert and Brenda helped take care of his mother Grace in her home, right next to theirs. They had a standing coffee date every morning, hashing over aches and pains, the happenings of kids and grandkids, and lessons the Lord was teaching them. 

Robert is survived by his son, Robert Myers (Janet); his brother,Joe Myers (Marsha); his grandchildren, Katy, Seth, Matt, Whitleigh (Gage), Kaydence, and Laura Brooke. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Grace Myers; his wife, Brenda; and his son, Lucas.

The service will be Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Bear Creek Baptist Church at 11:30 am, with visitation at 10:00am. He will be buried next to his wife Brenda and son Lucas at the Bear Creek Cemetery.
