Roy Kenneth “R.K.” Moss, aged 85, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at his home in Ackerman, Mississippi.
Roy was born on December 9, 1939 in Choctaw County. He joined the United States Navy in December of 1955 and spent four years serving his country. He returned home to Ackerman and then decided to reenlist in the United States Army where he served in three tour of duties including the Vietnam and Korean conflicts. He retired from the military in 1977 as an E-7 (Sergeant First Class). He received the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm (unit), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Army Commendation Medal w/1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Start Medal, Bronze 4 Loops, Sharpshooter, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Silver Service Stars & w/3 Bronze Service Stars.
Roy is survived by his sisters, Rhodena Lang of Ackerman, MS and Odell Wareham of Alexandria, VA along with his nieces and nephews, Melinda Bowman and Patti McClain of Ackerman, MS, Kevin Wareham and Kelly Wareham of Alexandria, VA, Joy Doyle, April Harlowe and Melony Olmsted of Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Dortha Moss, one sister, Mae Nell Martin, two nephews, Robert Lang and Jimmy Martin, and one niece, Kathy Russell.
He loved many outdoor activities, especially ‘coon’ and deer hunting. He also loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He was a member of South Union Methodist Church and will be buried alongside his parents at Salem Cemetery in Ackerman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 11:00 AMwith Chaplain Scott Edwards officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time beginning at 10:00 AMat Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery in Ackerman, MS.
Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
