Shirley King McIntire

Shirley King McIntire, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Choctaw County Nursing Home in Ackerman, Mississippi.

Shirley was born on December 9, 1939, to the late Sam and Ella King. She grew up in Weir, Mississippi, and later moved to Oregon with her family during her middle school years. She graduated from Newberg High School in 1958 in Newberg, Oregon.

While living in Oregon, Shirley returned to her hometown of Weir for a visit, where she met the love of her life, Larry McIntire. The two were married on March 1, 1962, in San Francisco, California. They eventually settled in Weir, where they built their life and raised their family.

Shirley worked in a variety of roles throughout her life but retired as Activities Director from Choctaw County Nursing Home in 2001. She enjoyed painting, knitting, working puzzles and word searches, and spending time outdoors picking blueberries and pecans from her yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry McIntire; her son, Curtis McIntire; and her parents, Sam and Ella King.

Shirley is survived by her son, Chris McIntire (Cheryl) of French Camp, MS; and her daughter, Pam McIntire of Long Beach, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Nolan McIntire (Heather) of Weir, MS; Sam McIntire (Mckenzie Borzik) of Long Beach, MS; Reese McIntire Utley (Brice) of Brandon, MS; and great grandchildren Beck and Tilly McIntire.

Pallbearers will be Nolan McIntire, Brice Utley, Ben Turnipseed, Lee Turnipseed, Ken Chandler, and Corey Simpson. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Sam McIntire, who is currently serving our country overseas in the military and unable to attend.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at New Haven Baptist Church in Weir, MS, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m. at New Haven Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery in Weir, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mt Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
