Thomas “Tommy” Wayne Curtis was born in Ackerman, MS, on June 4, 1956, to Hazel Curtis Coleman and Warren Robert Curtis, Sr. His paternal grandparents were Bryan and Mary Lee Curtis of French Camp, MS. Tommy was a delightful birthday gift to his mom, Hazel Curtis Coleman, when he was born on her birthday.
Tommy met His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face on February 14, 2025, in a beautiful example of Christ’s unfailing love. He is at peace and with Christ Jesus for eternity. This givessuch hope and comfort for our grieving hearts.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Robert Warren Curtis, Sr.; his mother, Hazel Curtis Coleman; his stepfather Robert “Bob” Lee Coleman; and his brothers Robert Warren Curtis Jr. and Joe Ed Curtis (Gloria).
Tommy is survived by his wife of 36 years, Debby McElroy Curtis; daughter Angie Curtis Miller (Shontezz); son Brian Thomas Curtis; daughter Tayrn Baggett (Truman) of Gulf Shores; sister Charlotte Curtis Taylor; grandchildren Javorie (Abby), Gibeau, Robby, Brett (Madison), Baleigh (Marc), and Tristyn; great grandchildren Curtis, Cannon, Aaidyn, andAudrey (due May, 2025); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tommy loved big and he loved many things: he loved his family dearly and completely. He loved Ole Miss sports, especially football. He loved Ackerman, Choctaw County, and the United States. Because of his great love, Tommy served in law enforcement for 36 years. During that time, he served with the Ackerman Police Department, the Choctaw County Sheriff's Department, and the Eupora Police Department. He also has served as an Alderman for the city of Ackerman for over 27years; he was three months shy of serving for 28 years. In fact, Tommy was the longest-serving Alderman in Ackerman’s history. During his tenure as Alderman, Tommy was only opposed in three elections!
Tommy was a husband, father, brother, friend, protector, lover of Ole Miss football, and a mischief-maker. He earned the nickname “Tomcat” because of his exuberant sense of humor. Tommy loved to laugh, and his giggle was infectious. His humor, love, and loyalty drove everything he did. But Tommywas never more content than when surrounded by family, his dog Riley, friends, and good catfish! Our hearts, the town of Ackerman, and Choctaw County will always hold Tommy in the deepest love and memories.
